Biography for Claire Raby:

My full name is Claire Forrest Rose Raby. I was born in March of 1984 and grew up in Center Moriches, New York. I now reside in Riverhead, New York.

I perform and record alone with my electric guitar. I am in the process of recording a few songs with Brian Lupo (guitarist of Eva and Rebekka Carol) and I've been doing some home recordings on my computer (though an epic battle with my amplifier is a constant setback). I don't claim to be a musical genius, but I am content with the ability I have. I'm a self-taught guitarist and often play by ear, but singing has always been my focus and my strong point.

I wasn't one of those kids who sang solos in church recitals. Given the chance I would've taken the spotlight, but I was always very modest in voicing my eagerness to perform. I was in the school chorus for most of the time between the fourth and twelfth grades, often going to NYSSMA festivals and performing solos or small ensembles. I sang in the 2001 HMEA chorus, which was a very rewarding experience for me. When I was disillusioned from wanting to become the youngest singer to make it in the music business (an idea which is shamefully force-fed to little girls), I tried to start a band. I was eventually successful in starting one, but like so many bands in high school, it ended shortly after it began.

Playing solo is not something I intended to do as a teenager, it was almost frowned upon (someone once said to me, "Going solo is something you do when your hair turns gray."), but I had no hope of getting another band together and I'd written my own songs since I was young. I decided that I didn't need a band to perform music, and that just getting out there and playing might even be helpful in getting me one.
